About the Center
The Loyola University New Orleans Play Therapy Center for Education and Research is housed in the university's department of counseling.
It meets all educational requirements for Registered Play Therapist certification (RPT) and is modeled after the Center for Play Therapy University of North Texas.
Mission
To facilitate student and faculty contribution of Play Therapy research to the field while increasing educational opportunities for students and practitioners. By providing quality learning opportunities for students and practitioners, we hope to offer more children, adolescents, and adults healing through play. Provide pro-bono consultation and education in the New Orleans area through local non-profit collaboration. Provide Educational opportunities outside of the region through professional collaboration.
Goals
The goals of the Play Therapy Center are to:
- provide graduate play therapy courses
- host conferences
- conduct intensive workshops
- provide supervision experiences
- seminars
- research projects

Endowment and Grants
The Loyola University New Orleans Play Therapy Center for Education and Research received an endowment and grant totaling $50,000 from The Heebe Family Fund at Touro Infirmary in September 2015. The endowment & grant will help to provide training, and continuing education professional workshops for healthcare professionals, especially mental health counselors focused on families struggling with life-threatening illnesses, such as cancer. Money is also earmarked for workshop scholarships and the play therapy library, housed in Monroe Library. This endowment will be used to train healthcare professionals and mental health counselors, as well as to provide continuing education workshops.
